About
Magdalena Gedroyć
She was born in 1975. She is a graduate of the State High School of Fine Arts in Zamość and completed her studies at the Faculty of Arts at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin in 2003. She earned her diploma in printmaking – lithography – in the studio of Professor Piotr Lech. She works in oil painting. She lives and creates in the roztocze region. Her works are held in private collections in Poland and abroad.
Her compositions are centered around the human figure, most often female – isolated and distanced from the surrounding chaos of the world, as well as from the presence of another person. This „other”, often appearing as a twin-like figure, remains both separate and intimately connected – nearly identical, yet always distinct. A recurring motif is the presence of animals – cats, dogs, birds, dragonflies, perhaps offering a deeper level of understanding...

Over time, objects from the inanimate world join the protagonists of these stories: fans, teacups, teapots, origami figures, books, masks. They from distinctive cycles (Mandala Project, Dance of Fans, Birds, Origami, Masks), continuously developed, allowing themes to be explored from multiple perspectives, through varied compositional approaches and color schemes. The poetics of her work lead the viewer into a space between reality and dream – into a oneiric realm of magical realism.
The pursuit of cosmos – the ordering of one’s own reality – the artist expresses through a specific attitude: contemplation and the pensive mood in the porteayed figures. Along this path, traces of sadness, fulfillment, and a quiet, almost shy sense of happiness emerge.
